Day 1  |  Arrive in Windhoek

On arrival at Windhoek’s Hosea Kutako International Airport and after clearing customs and immigration, you will be met and assisted by a representative from Africa by Heart to your light aircraft for your scheduled transfer to Little Kulala.

Little Kulala – Sossusvlei
3 nights

Little Kulala is a luxurious desert retreat situated in the private 27 000-hectare (67 000-acre) Kulala Wilderness Reserve – the gateway to Namibia’s Sand Sea with its towering dunes and clear starry skies. Desert-adapted wildlife in the area is fascinating and is another dimension of this truly spectacular place.

Accommodation consists of 11 climate-controlled, thatched “kulalas” (the word means ‘to sleep’) which merge impeccably into the desert landscape, each with private plunge pool, both indoor and outdoor showers and a rooftop star bed for star gazing. An elegant entertainment area includes a library, wine cellar, craft boutique, lounge and dining areas.

Little Kulala’s interiors make use of neutral colours, gorgeous textures and natural light and takes its inspiration from its surroundings, notably from the magnificent Dead Vlei.

Highlights:

  • Little Kulala offers close proximity and private access to the dunes of Sossusvlei
  • Explore the dramatic Kulala Wilderness Reserve on a quad bike, hot air balloon, nature drive or on foot
  • Dining under the sparkling clear Namibian skies is a speciality here

Day 4  |  Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp

At a time specified by the camp staff, you will be driven to the airstrip for your scheduled light aircraft transfer via Swakopmund, to Doro Nawas airstrip. On arrival, you will connect with an additional scheduled light aircraft transfer to Hoanib Skeleton Coast.

Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp
3 nights

In a remote area of the Kaokoveld, in a land of bare mountains, gravel-strewn plains and dry riverbeds that draw fascinating wildlife lies Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp. Both the eight large en-suite tents (including one family unit) with shaded outdoor lounges and the main area and swimming pool look out over rugged scenery: a wide valley that slopes down to the almost-always dry Hoanib River. Explorations of this isolated yet diverse area take place via game drives along the riverbed’s narrow ribbon of vegetation, where a surprising wealth of desert-adapted wildlife can be found: elephant, giraffe, gemsbok and springbok, with glimpses of lion and brown hyena. The Skeleton Coast with its desolate rocky coastline, noisy colonies of Cape fur seals and remains of shipwrecks is accessed either by a fascinating drive or scenic flight, depending on the weather.

Highlights:

  • Vast, remote, isolated wilderness offering excellent viewing of Namibia’s distinctive desert-adapted wildlife.
  • Diverse activities showcase spectacular scenery, unexpected oases and enormous sand dunes.
  • Seal colonies that line the endless dramatic shores of the Skeleton Coast are a fascinating sight.

Day 7

At a time advised by the camp staff, you will be driven to the airstrip for your scheduled light aircraft flight from Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp to Serra Cafema Camp. The journey typically includes a stop at Doro Nawas airstrip along the way, either for refueling or to collect or drop off other guests.

Serra Cafema Camp – Kunene River
3 nights

Set amongst shady trees on the banks of the Kunene River, Serra Cafema is one of the most remote camps in southern Africa, its Portuguese name originating from the mountains that dominate the northern skyline. Guests fall asleep to the sound of rushing water, while by day they explore one of the driest deserts in the world.  The camp’s eight unique canvas and thatched chalets, each with its own en-suite bathroom, show great attention to detail; the elevated decks and simple structures of wood, canvas and thatch create a camp that is at one with its surroundings. The dining room and pool look out over the Kunene River.

Activities here are varied, including boating (water levels permitting), walking, viewing breathtaking landscapes, as well as carefully guided quad-bike excursions that tread lightly on the dunes. In this isolated region, the Himba people continue their nomadic, traditional way of life and when in the area, offer guests the opportunity to learn about their lifestyle and traditions.

Highlights:

  • Rushing rapids just below camp lull you into dreamland after a day of desert exploration
  • Most authentic Himba cultural experience in all of Namibia
  • Explore this fascinating unexplored landscape by quad bike

Day 10  |  Fly back to Windhoek

At a time advised by camp staff, you’ll be driven to the airstrip for your scheduled light aircraft flight from Serra Cafema Camp to Hoanib airstrip. From there, you’ll connect to another scheduled flight, routing via Doro Nawas airstrip, and continue to Windhoek International Airport.
