This is a sample itinerary however we have a whole host of itinerary ideas that are sure to inspire your next tailor-made holiday with Africa by Heart.

Day 1  |  Nairobi

On arrival at Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be met by a representative from Africa by Heart and transferred to The Boma Nairobi for one night on a Bed and Breakfast basis.

The Boma Nairobi (1 night)
The Boma Nairobi is a beautiful, modern hotel strategically situated off Mombasa Road 13 kilometres from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and 5 kilometres from the Wilson Airport. The hotel offers luxury accommodation, superb restaurants and a health and spa club. Fully owned by Kenya Red Cross Society, the hotels revenues go a long way to support humanitarian activities.

Day 2  |  Samburu

Today after breakfast, you will be met and transferred to Wilson Airport for your scheduled light aircraft transfer to Samburu, departing at 09h15 and arriving at 11h10. On arrival you will be met by a camp representative and transferred to the Elephant Bedroom Camp for three nights on a Full Board basis.

Elephant Bedroom Camp (3 nights)

Elephant Bedroom Camp is set on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in Samburu National Reserve.

The twelve spacious, insect-proof tents each have a private veranda and en-suite bathrooms are fitted with double washbasin, hot and cold running water, flushing toilets and rain showers.`

The lounge and dining area offer vibrant safari colours with original oil paintings and soft lighting designed to relax guests returning from an exciting game drive. Huge herds of elephant, prides of lion or the solitary leopard amongst other game are regular visitors around the camp, providing excellent game viewing in spectacular scenic background of rugged rolling hills.

Dining is a culinary experience with al-fresco breakfast, 3-course lunch and 4-course candlelit gourmet dinner set either under the African sky or inside the well-appointed dining area.

Day 4  |  Masai Mara

Today after breakfast, you will be met and transferred to the local airstrip for your scheduled light aircraft transfer to the Masai Mara, departing at 10h05 and arriving at 12h35. On arrival, you will be met by a camp representative and transferred to Kicheche Mara Camp for three nights on a Full Board basis.

Kicheche Mara Camp (3 nights)

Kicheche Mara Camp is a classic tented camp hidden in a beautiful valley in a prime wildlife area of the Mara North Conservancy. The luxury tents are laid out alongside a seasonal stream from where you can observe the resident birdlife and plains game beyond.

The location is ideal as game viewing frequently starts in the camp itself and there is prime wildlife habitat on all sides providing an ideal base for your safari in the Maasai Mara.

The family suite is a perfect new addition with two separate bedrooms (double & twin/triple) with ensuite bathrooms. The bedrooms are connected by a lounge furnished with a sofa and small table enabling private dining.

Game drives in customized 4WD safari vehicles with one of their star guides. Watching wildlife at close range, but without encroaching on their space, is endlessly fascinating and our guides’ instincts and safari experience will provide superb wildlife photography opportunities. Extended game drives – we do not impose limits on the length.

Day 7  |  Serengeti

Today after breakfast, you will be met and transferred to the local airstrip for your scheduled light aircraft transfer to the Serengeti via Migori, your first flight departs at 09h10 and arrives at 09h30.

On arrival you will be met by an airline representative and transferred across the Isebania border, where you will clear customs and immigration, before being transferred to Tarime Airstrip for your scheduled light aircraft transfer departing at 10h30.

On arrival at 11h05 you will be met by our representative and transferred by road to Serengeti Kati Kati Camp for two nights on a Full Board basis.

Serengeti Kati Kati Camp (2 nights)

Serengeti Kati Kati is a mobile tented camp located in central Serengeti, strategically located to cover the vast Serengeti Plains. The camp offers comfortable accommodation and a unique opportunity to enjoy a real safari camp experience. The camp is only a two-hour scenic drive from Olduvai Gorge Museum and Grumeti River.

The camp offers accommodation in 10 tents with en suite facilities, large king size or twin beds, shower, hand basin and flush toilet. There is a cosy mess tent located in the centre of the camp where meals are served and a campfire is ready every evening for appetizers and snacks before dinner.

Day 9  |  Ngorongoro

Today after breakfast depart for a game drive, you will be driven through the Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, stopping en-route for a visit to the world-famous Olduvai Gorge Palaeolithic site and reputed ‘Cradle of Mankind’. Proceed to Ngorongoro Farm House where you will be accommodated for two nights on a Full Board basis.

Ngorongoro Farm House (2 nights)
Ngorongoro Farm House is a lovely lodge just outside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Set in 750 acres of private farmland, it is comfortable, well laid out and has some lovely views across the farm and across to Oldeani Volcano. The lodge opened in 2003 and is an excellent base for visiting the Ngorongoro Crater.

The lodge is still a fully functional farm – they grow their own wheat and the organic garden produces a lot of the vegetables used in their food. The farm is also home to cows, pigs and sheep, and the farm roasts and grinds their own coffee.

Day 10  |  Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast enjoy a half day tour to the Ngorongoro Crater. This protected area is located in the Great Rift Valley. The Crater is actually a gigantic fracture of the earth’s crust. The magnificent landscape consists of volcanoes, mountains, plains, lakes, forests and archaeological sites. At 1600 meters altitude the bottom of the Crater (265 km square), dotted with watering holes, offers shelter to almost 30 000 animals in an area naturally enclosed by the slopes of the volcano. The Crater elephants are strangely, mainly bulls. There is a small number of black rhino. The bird life is largely seasonal and is also affected by the ratio of soda and fresh water on the Crater floor.

You will also explore the wildlife: lions, elephants, zebra, hippo, buffalos, and rhino are just a few to be mentioned. Today you will enjoy picnic lunch at the crater floor. After an exciting half day of safari ascend and proceed back to Ngorongoro Farm House.

Day 11  |  Zanzibar

Today after a leisurely breakfast, you will be met and transferred to the local airstrip for your scheduled light aircraft transfer to Manyara Airstrip departing at 12h00. On arrival at 14h15, you will be met by a representative from Africa by Heart and transferred to Hakuna Majiwe for seven nights on a Half Board basis.

Hakuna Majiwe (7 nights)

Dotted between the palm trees of Zanzibar’s South East Coast, along with an unfurling swathe of postcard-perfect coastline, sits Hakuna Majiwe. The 20 luxury cabanas of Hakuna Majiwe are spread out along this quiet, palm-fringed beach, each leading straight onto the hourglass-fine sands and jade waters of the Indian Ocean. Day 18  |  Departure

Today after breakfast, spend the morning at leisure before being transferred to Zanzibar Airport, in time to connect with your onward flight.
