Our classic Zimbabwe itinerary is two nights at Vic Falls, three or four nights in Hwange, and three to four nights in Mana Pools.

Remember that distances between destinations are long and that you will be taking light aircraft to get from place to place. The more full days you have in a destination, the more morning and afternoon game drives you will be able to fit in.

When visiting the Victoria Falls it’s important to get the timing right.

  • High-water season is from about February to July – expect the most spectacular views of the Falls and prepare to get a little wet.
  • Low-water season is from about August to January – this is the best time for white-water rafting and swimming in Devils Pool
  • Safari high or peak season is from about June to October – a good time to combine a safari with a visit to Vic Falls. Bear in mind that the later you visit, the drier the Falls will be. The ‘sweet spot’ for a good safari and great views is generally about July and August, which is also a very popular time to visit. Reservations should be secured well in advance.

We also highly recommend a visit to South Luangwa National Park in Zambia.

Wild, remote and packed with big game, the South Luangwa is Zambia’s premier wildlife destination. Luxurious camps and lodges sit on the banks of the meandering Luangwa River but much of this compact 9 000km² reserve is still largely unexplored, giving the South Luangwa a distinctly raw edge and making it a top choice for an authentic, off-the-beaten-track safari experience. You’ll need to plan your South Luangwa safari carefully as the valley undergoes dramatic seasonal changes and many of the smaller camps close during the summer rainy season (about November to April, also known as Green Season).

ITINERARY

2 Nights – 3 Days | Zambia

This is a sample itinerary however we have a whole host of itinerary ideas that are sure to inspire your next tailor-made holiday with Africa by Heart.

Day 1  |  Livingstone – Waterberry Zambezi Lodge

On arrival at Livingstone International Airport, you will be met by a representative from Africa by Heart and transferred to Waterberry Zambezi Lodge for two nights on a Full Board basis.

The small, congenial and family-friendly Waterberry Zambezi Lodge, which is usually known simply as ‘Waterberry Lodge’, is set on 750m of Zambezi riverfront, a 45-minute drive upstream from the Victoria Falls. It’s close enough to visit the Falls easily, but far enough away that its tranquillity isn’t disturbed by the noise of the helicopters or microlight flights that operate there during the day.

Waterberry isn’t a five-star lodge, but then they don’t aim to be. However, their friendly team does deliver on service – with some of the best information on the area and the activities that we’ve come across – and they provide a comfortable, very attractive setting from which to visit the Victoria Falls and explore the Zambezi River.

Day 3  |  Waterberry Zambezi Lodge – Livingstone

At a time to be advised, you will be transferred by road to Livingstone Airport in time to connect with your onward flight.
